Basic description

• Main aim of cohort
  The main aim of the study is to identify features of the environment, genotypes and the interaction between the two that influence the health, development and well-being of children throughout the life course. Main exposures: Features of the diet, psychosocial influences including type of housing, as well as violence in the home, types of neighbourhood and linkage to features such as major roads and sources of pollution. Main outcomes: Growth including measures of weight, height, waist circumference, leg length etc; health particularly including atopic disorders such as asthma eczema and hay fever, gastrointestinal disturbance, febrile convulsions, cardiovascular markers, and so on. Most health outcome measures are in terms of traits although diagnosis also exist; behavioural and psychiatric disorders – including hyperactivity, conduct disorder, anxiety; neurocognitive outcomes including IQ, attention span, vision and hearing, speech and language.
